Suite 103 is a comfortable two-bedroom apartment, highlighted by oriental and Mexican art. Both bedrooms have king beds and the rear bedroom also has a futon that opens into a double bed. French doors from the front bedroom lead onto the palapa-shaded balcony that overlooks our colorful tropical garden. The large kitchen-dining room comfortably accommodates up to five guests.
Akumal is the most secure resort town on the entire Caribbean Coast and one of the safest places in Mexico. At the heart of the Riviera Maya, it is surrounded by cenotes fed by underground rivers and open-water dive sites along the second-longest barrier reef in the world that have made the Riviera Maya one of the foremost dive destinations in the world. It is a quaint and friendly resort village quite unlike the party towns, cookie-cutter condos, and faux-luxury all-inclusive hotels that line the coast like beached cruise ships.
Casa Gatos is located in the residential neighborhood of North Akumal between Half Moon Bay and Yalku Lagoon where we have arranged a discount for our guests. A small woodland opposite our entrance buffers us from the hustle and bustle of the main shore road. Four restaurants are a short walk away with another six clustered around the entrance to Akumal Bay a mile down the shore road. There are more restaurants, stores, and an outdoor produce market in the pueblo across the highway. The pueblo itself is worth exploring with many buildings sporting murals by leading street artists from around the world.
